Today I want to talk about artistic growth and exploration.
I’ll be focusing on the process of my negative space starry night sky technique.
This first time I created this pattern/texture was an attempt to make a tapestry of the night sky in my painting.
I knew I didn’t want the stars to be my typical bloom paint drops added on top of a dark solid area of paint. I wanted the starts to be bright and contrasting. So I played with painting around negative space to create organic shaped stars.
I loved it!
I kept playing with this technique placing stars in the sky on many pieces. It was fun to layer colors behind the stars adding depth and curiosity. I also used the stars on a figures cloak.
All of these pieces brought me to the idea of creating a figure with multicolored starry skin. And that’s when my most recent piece was born.
And now my heart wants to create a figure with starry skin with oil!
Play is where creative growth happens. Inspiration strikes followed by many questions. How can I use this? How can I adapt? What other mediums can I explore with this idea?
I’d love to have you join my online classes where I guide and support students through self reflection. Click the classes section of my website to explore available classes.
